Magnetic racks for working with magnetic particles

A magnetic rack is an indispensable instrument in works that involve magnetic particles. Using magnetic rack allows to process big number of samples in a short time and with high efficiency. Choosing the specific make of the rack depends on assigned tasks. The core element of all our racks is a rare-earth neodymium magnet. These magnets have the strongest magnetic field of all the magnets that are known and available at this moment. It provides high particles collection speed, making the whole typical collection procedure last not longer than 30 seconds.

The design of the rack and its capacity are the main factors defining its efficiency.

MagRack 6 magnetic rack is intended for working with 6 samples. It fits tasks that do not require processing of big number of samples. It is good for research and educational laboratories. The rack has a segmented magnetic collector with six extra-strong neodymium magnets. It results in much smaller propagation of magnetic field outside of the rack, while its strenght at the tubes is as high as if a whole magnetic collector was used. Such design of the collector provides higher safety for surrounding magnetic-sensitive equipment.

MagRack 16 magnetic rack is designed to allow simultaneous processing of 16 samples. The rack is compatible with our universal strips of TubeStrip8Х series for standard 1.5 ml tubes.

MagRack 16 has a removable top part (the tubes holder) and magnetic base (the collector). Such design allows to resuspend and collect particles without removing tubes from the rack and putting them back. It is just needed to lift the top part and put it away from the magnetic collector. The particles can be resuspended after it. When the top part is placed back, the particles will start to collect immediately.

A special plastic band with small separate neodymium magnets is used instead of a whole magnet bar. It minimizes the weight of the rack and decreases the range of strong magnetic field that can affect surrounding equipment. Small magnets have much higher field attenuation with distance, while near the surface the field is almost as strong as it is near the whole magnetic band.

The rack best fits for small laboratories with daily work flow of less than 50 samples per employee. It includes educational, research and small diagnostical laboratories.

MagRack 40 magnetic rack is designed for workload of 40 samples. The rack is an intermediate unit between manual processing procedures and semi-automated equipment. Like all our new generation of magnetic racks, MagRack40 is compatible with our universal strips of TubeStrip8Х series for standard 1.5 ml tubes.

The magnetic rack consists of three parts: the transparent top part (the rack itsefl), the bottom part and the mobile magnetic collector. The transparent rack can contain up to 40 tubes (5 strips with 8 tubes each). The magnetic collector is placed on special sliders in the bottom part. It can move between rows of tubes. The collector has a self-positioning system that makes it easy to place it right along with the tubes. No precise work is needed to align the collector with the tubes row. It has to be just pushed towards the required row and it will align itself with the tubes.

Such design makes it possible to carry out the whole procedure in the rack, i.e. no need to remove the tubes out of the magnetic rack to resuspend particles and then place them back to collect particles. You just have to move the magnetic collector to the row of tubes to collect particles. When you wish to resuspend them, move the collector away and use pipetter or mini-mixer.

MagRack 40 was developed not only as a desktop device. It is a part of our semi-automated isolation complex for DNA, RNA and proteins, that is in development stage now. Using the rack as a standalone desktop device also provides high efficiency when combined with other devices: compatible thermal blocks, handheld mixers, aspirators etc.

The rack best fits for laboratories with daily work flow of up to 150 samples per employee. It includes large research laboratories and medium diagnostical laboratories.

MagRack 50ML magnetic rack is intended for magnetic separation of particles in standard 15 and 50 ml tubes. These types of tubes are the most widely used for working with big volumes of liquids. The rack is usefull for isolation of:

   • DNA/RNA from blood plasma and serum;

   • DNA/RNA or cells from urine;

   • DNA/RNA of microorganisms from environmental water.

The set consists of the rack itself and a special insert. 50 ml tubes can be placed in the rack immediately. With the insert placed into the rack it is possible to work with 15 ml tubes.

Neodymium magnets used in the rack are the strongest commercially available at the moment. Their magnetic field provides high separation speed even when working with such a big volume. Another significant characteristic is force that holds magnetic particles at the tube wall. When using MagRack50ML, particles are safely held at the wall and will not be washed away while removing liquid. Though it is recommended to use a special aspirator for removing liquid, particles will be safe even when simply pouring the liquid out.
